A new Wi-Fi service in South-East regional hospitals including Goulburn is proving popular.

The service was already live at Goulburn and the Southern NSW Local Health district has introduced the Wi Fi capability to a further 11 facilities.

In the first month of implementation, more than 500 patients and guests have taken advantage of the service, using it mostly for video communication.

Health district Acting Chief Executive, Jude Constable says giving access to Wi Fi has enhanced the care provided to patients and visitors.

Patients could pass the time, quickly browsing the web, connecting on social media and watching movies through streaming.

The Wi Fi service has been made possible through a $20 million allocation of state funds.
