Goulburn Mulwaree councillors last night heeded community calls to keep land in Albert street entirely as a park area.

It is an issue which saw local residents loudly voice their objections to any changes.

The land at 30 Albert street had been proposed to partially remain as a park area, with the other portion to be re-classified as Operational and then rezoned for residential purposes.

Deputy mayor, Peter Walker was successful with a motion that the entire area be retained under its current classification of community land.

Perhaps indicative of community sentiment, Councillor Walker said that parks in the Goulburn area are hard to come by and easy to get rid of.

Last night's decision followed numerous submissions from surrounding community members on what the Albert street park meant to them.

Councillor Walker added that a park was green space and should be retained.
