Feral horses in the Kosciuszko National Park have been described as a ticking time bomb.

The Reclaim Kosci campaign is also warning people travelling to the Snowy Mountains area of the dangers associated with the feral animals.

Campaign spokesman, Richard Swain says the number of feral horses roaming on the Snowy Mountains highway on the way to popular family ski resorts is frightening.

He says freedom of information documents reveal alarming statistics involving the ferals as well as grisly photos of dead horses on the Snowy Mountains highway.

Mr Swain added that lives are on the line and if action is not taken to reduce horse numbers in the Kosciuszko National Park, it will only be a matter of time before there are human fatalities.
