A hazard burn-off has been scheduled in the Tarlo River National Park today.

The 250 hectare burn is on the southern side of the reserve between Potters north trail and the Tarlo River and is designed to protect the park.

The burn off effects will also limit the potential spread of wildfire onto surrounding properties.

Illawarra Highlands National Parks and Wildlife Service acting manager, Melinda Norton says access to the park is closed during the operation and smoke may be visible in the Greenwich Park and Bill Hill areas for several days.
