Important work towards the conservation of Goulburn's St Clair Villa museum is moving forward.

Thus far, volunteers with the Goulburn and District Historical Society have been working to ensure that the St Clair collection is prepared, catalogued and packaged up, ready for off-site storage.

The Goulburn Mulwaree Council has already allocated $500,000 for conservation works in line with a management plan endorsed last December.

St Clair has a state heritage listing and as such a development application for the work is before the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage.

While a determination is expected by the end of this year, St Clair will be closed to the public in the coming months in preparation for the conservation works.
