Federal and state members of parliament have announced more than $170,000 for flood work in Goulburn and Yass.

More than $93,000 goes to Goulburn Mulwaree Council to manage flood plain risk and another $80,000 has been allocated to the Yass Valley council.

The money has come from the state and federally funded National Partnership Agreement on National disaster Resilience.

Federal member, Angus Taylor says the money will allow councils to make informed decisions on the best way to mitigate floods and manage the risks.

State member, Pru Goward welcomed the funding saying the consequences of flooding could leave a community shattered.
